"Of course not," she replied without real feeling. He was saying the words, but as much as she wanted to trust him, she wasn't sure that she could. He and Charles always argued eventually and he'd do what he'd done that first time. He'd leave. And this time, Raven wouldn't be going with him. She'd chosen her path for good or ill and now it wasn't just about herself or even the noble and impossibly large goal of saving mutantkind. It was about keeping a handful of students safe and creating a safe space for everyone they could find. Saving the individual, that was what mattered.
"You have the number here if you ever want to talk."
Because even if he did come back, and she wasn't sure he would, she didn't expect he'd stay.
